Back in 2020, my husband and I were experiencing a rocky patch in our marriage during the month of February. As February 14th drew closer, we knew we needed to get each other something to celebrate the day, but marriage tensions made it nearly impossible to enjoy the day. We felt like we were going through the motions. We got each other small gifts but didn't enjoy the day as much as we had hoped. Looking back, we could have saved ourselves the pressure of having to have a big celebration and instead enjoyed a quiet evening at home. While many other couples may enjoy celebrating Valentine's Day, some couples may feel pressured to have a great day to show each other they love each other even when they're in conflict or their marriage is not going well. Card companies, candy companies, and television certainly don't make it any easier when it comes to celebrating February 14th. If you and your spouse are not exactly feeling the love for each other on that day, you can still enjoy Valentine's Day without all the pressure.
